"In a manner of speaking. I’m Isla. I study the local fauna. That porg is particularly friendly. Looks like he’s taken a liking to you."
Kylo scoffed. "I don’t have time for pets. I’m on a mission."
Isla shrugged. "Then maybe you shouldn’t look so interesting. He’s never done that before. Usually, he’s afraid of strangers."
The porg cooed, rubbing against Kylo’s boot. Against his better judgment, Kylo felt a flicker of... something. Annoyance? No, softer. He shook his head. "I’m not here to make friends."
"Pity. Because I think you’ve already made one." Isla knelt, scooping up the porg. "I can take him off your hands, but only if you promise to come back after your mission. I’d love to hear about what’s so important on this island."
Kylo hesitated. She was bold, fearless. Unusual. "And why would I do that?"
She smiled, a glint in her eyes. "Because I make a mean cup of caf, and I know the best spot to watch the sunset. Consider it a cultural exchange."
