The rain fell in sheets, blurring the world outside the café window. Jungwon sat alone at a corner table, his untouched coffee growing cold. He traced the rim of the cup, his mind replaying the words he had spoken just hours ago.

"I can't do this anymore."

The look on her face—the reader, the girl he had loved for two years—was seared into his memory. Her eyes, once full of warmth and trust, had filled with tears and confusion. She had asked why, her voice trembling, but he had no answer that would make sense.

He loved her. That was the cruelest part. He loved her more than he had ever loved anyone, but the weight of his own insecurities and fears had crushed him. He had pushed her away before she could leave him first, a self-fulfilling prophecy born from the scars of his past.

A week had passed since that rainy evening. Jungwon had thrown himself into practice, hoping to drown out the silence in his heart. But the music, once his refuge, only reminded him of the songs they had listened to together. Her laugh echoed in every note.

Tonight, he stood outside her apartment building. Rain soaked through his hoodie as he stared at the window on the third floor. The light was on. She was home. He had come to apologize, to beg her forgiveness, but his courage faltered. What right did he have to disturb her peace? He had caused enough pain.

He turned to leave, but the door swung open. There she stood, wrapped in a worn blanket, her eyes red-rimmed.

"Jungwon?" Her voice was hoarse, barely a whisper above the rain.

"I'm sorry," he blurted out, the words tumbling before he could stop them. "I shouldn't have come. I just—I needed to see you."

She stepped closer, the rain plastering her hair to her face. "Why did you say those things?" She asked, her tears mingling with the raindrops. "I thought we were happy."

"We were," he choked out, his own tears falling freely now. "I was happy. Too happy. And I kept waiting for the other shoe to drop, for you to realize I wasn't enough. So I left before you could."

"You're an idiot, Yang Jungwon," she said, her voice cracking. "I never once thought you weren't enough. I loved you for who you are, all of you, even the parts you hide."

He reached out, his hand hovering near her face, afraid to touch. "I know. And I'm so sorry. I ruined us because I was scared. I let my fear win."

She took his hand, pressing it against her wet cheek. "We can be scared together," she whispered. "But you have to promise not to run away again."

He pulled her into his arms, holding her tight as the rain continued to fall. The world around them faded, leaving only the warmth of their embrace. It wouldn't be easy. Trust took time. But for the first time in a long time, Jungwon felt hope.

"I promise," he murmured into her hair. "I'll stay."
