Raggedy Andy sat alone on the circus bleachers, his button eyes fixed on the empty ring below. The neon lights of the Digital Circus flickered in hues of pink and purple, casting long shadows across the digital sand. He felt every one of his years—decades, maybe centuries—pulling at the seams of his cloth body. His once-bright red yarn hair was frayed, his patches faded, and his stitches loose. He was falling apart, and no one seemed to notice.

It had been a quiet day. The others were scattered throughout the grounds: Pomni exploring a new hallway, Jax teasing Gangle near the entrance, Ragatha knitting in her room, Zooble reassembling themselves for the hundredth time, Kinger muttering about abstract concepts, and Caine—well, Caine was always doing something. But Andy felt invisible. He was the oldest, the first to arrive according to the fragmented memories he held. He had seen others come and go, abstract and disappear, while he remained, a tattered relic.

A thread on his arm came loose. He tugged at it absently, watching it unravel further. He should fix it. He used to care. But now, the effort seemed pointless. What was the point of mending when he would just fray again? He sighed, a sound that crackled like static.

“Hey, Raggedy? You doing okay?”

Andy looked up. Pomni stood a few feet away, her blue-and-white jester hat askew, her eyes wide with concern. She was new. Still fresh. Still hopeful. Andy envied her.

“I'm fine,” he said, his voice a whisper of scratchy fabric. “Just resting.”

Pomni hesitated, then sat down beside him. “You don't look fine. You look… sad.” She pointed at his arm. “You're unraveling.”

Andy looked down. The loose thread now stretched several inches. He coiled it around his finger. “It happens.”

“Can I help?” Pomni asked. Her sincerity was like a balm, but also a sting. He didn't want pity.

“No,” he said, too sharply. Pomni flinched. Andy softened. “Sorry. I didn't mean to snap. It's just… this place. It wears you down.”

Pomni nodded slowly. She understood—she was only beginning to understand the weight of eternity. But she didn't push. She just sat with him, and for a moment, that was enough.

Then Jax’s voice rang out. “Hey, puppet boy! You gonna sit there all day? We're playing a game. Come on!”

Andy shook his head. “Not today.”

Jax shrugged and bounded off, but Gangle lingered, her red ribbons drooping. “Andy? Is your arm okay?” she asked, her voice small.

“It's fine, Gangle.”

“No, it's not,” Ragatha said, appearing from behind a curtain. She held a sewing kit. “I saw from my window. You're coming apart. Let me fix it.”

Andy felt a surge of frustration. “I don't need fixing! I need to be left alone!” He stood abruptly, his joints creaking. The others stared.

Kinger shuffled over, his chess piece crown askew. “He's abstracting,” he murmured. “Emotionally. Not literally, but it's a process.”

“I'm not abstracting!” Andy shouted. “I'm just tired!”

Zooble rolled their mismatched eyes. “We're all tired. But you've been moping for weeks. We noticed.”

Andy’s button eyes widened. They noticed? He had felt so invisible. “I… I didn't think anyone cared.”

“Of course we care,” Ragatha said gently. “You're part of this family. Even if you're a bit raggedy.” She smiled.

Suddenly, a loud pop and Caine appeared, top hat gleaming. “Ah! A gathering! And Andy, you seem to be having a situation with your integumentary system! Fear not, for I, Caine, am a master of repairs!” He pulled out a giant needle.

Andy backed away. “No. Please. I don't want to be fixed. I want to be remembered.” His voice cracked. “I've been here longer than any of you. I've seen so many leave. I'm the last of my kind—the first doll in this circus. And I'm fading. No one tells stories about me. I'm just… old.”

The group fell silent. Pomni stepped forward. “We don't know your story because you never told us.”

Andy’s shoulders sagged. “I didn't think you'd want to hear it.”

“We want to,” Gangle said, her ribbons perking up.

And so, Andy sat back down, and they gathered around. He told them of his creation—a child's toy brought to life by the circus's magic. He told them of the early days, when everything was new and bright, before the exits were sealed, before the abstracts. He told them of friends who fell to despair, and how he held on because someone had to remember.

When he finished, there were tears in Pomni’s eyes. Ragatha hugged him, careful of his loose threads. Kinger said, “You are the memory keeper. That is important.”

Zooble nodded. “Yeah. You're like the circus's historian.”

Jax, for once, didn't joke. He just said, “That sucks. But you're still here.”

Caine clapped his hands. “A wonderful tale! Now, let's fix that arm, shall we? Not just for function—but for honor!”

Andy hesitated. Then he nodded. “Okay.”

Caine stitched him up with precision, matching thread colors and patching holes. Pomni handed him a new button for a missing eye. Ragatha reinforced his seams. Even Jax helped by holding the thread steady. Gangle hummed a tune. Kinger recited a poem about fabric and time. Zooble offered a spare gear for decoration.

When they were done, Andy looked at himself. He was still patchwork, but now the patches told a story—of care, of community. He felt whole, not because of the stitches, but because of the hands that had made them.

“Thank you,” he said, his voice thick.

“Thank you for staying,” Pomni replied.

And for the first time in a long time, Raggedy Andy smiled.
