Kylo Ren stormed through the forest of Ahch-To, his cape billowing behind him. The mission was simple: retrieve a Sith artifact hidden in an ancient temple. But the native wildlife had other plans. A small, round creature with big eyes waddled into his path, chirping merrily. Kylo stopped, igniting his lightsaber with a dramatic hiss. "Move, you insufferable fluff-ball."
The porg tilted its head, unimpressed. It hopped closer, peering up at him with an expression that could only be described as adoration. Kylo growled, but before he could shoo it away, a voice interrupted.
"Careful, he’s a charmer."
Kylo spun around. A young woman with chestnut hair and a mischievous grin leaned against a tree, arms crossed. She wore simple garb, a blaster at her hip. "He’s yours?" Kylo demanded.
"In a manner of speaking. I’m Isla. I study the local fauna. That porg is particularly friendly. Looks like he’s taken a liking to you."
Kylo scoffed. "I don’t have time for pets. I’m on a mission."
Isla shrugged. "Then maybe you shouldn’t look so interesting. He’s never done that before. Usually, he’s afraid of strangers."
The porg cooed, rubbing against Kylo’s boot. Against his better judgment, Kylo felt a flicker of... something. Annoyance? No, softer. He shook his head. "I’m not here to make friends."
"Pity. Because I think you’ve already made one." Isla knelt, scooping up the porg. "I can take him off your hands, but only if you promise to come back after your mission. I’d love to hear about what’s so important on this island."
Kylo hesitated. She was bold, fearless. Unusual. "And why would I do that?"
She smiled, a glint in her eyes. "Because I make a mean cup of caf, and I know the best spot to watch the sunset. Consider it a cultural exchange."
Against all logic, Kylo found himself agreeing. He completed his mission swiftly, the porg still on his mind. That evening, he met Isla at a cliff overlooking the ocean. They talked—he grumbled, she laughed. The porg perched between them, a silent witness to an unlikely connection.
