The stadium lights had long since dimmed, and the roar of the crowd faded into a distant memory. Victory celebrations echoed in the distance, but Shu Kurenai remained on the edge of the arena, his bey, Dranzer, resting in his palm. The weight of the championship match still pressed on his shoulders, even though Valt Aoi had emerged victorious.

Shu traced the rim of Dranzer with his thumb, his mind replaying every launch, every clash. He had pushed Valt to his limits, and Valt had pushed back harder, smiling that infuriating, brilliant smile even when the odds were against him. It was that smile that had drawn Shu into their rivalry, and that smile that now made his heart ache.

A soft footstep broke the silence. Shu didn't need to turn around.

"I thought you'd be at the party," Shu said, his voice steady but low.

"I wanted to find you," Valt replied, stepping into the moonlight that streamed through the high windows. His hair was still messy from the battle, and his jacket was slung over his shoulder. He stopped a few feet away, his eyes searching Shu's face. "You were incredible out there."

Shu let out a breath that was almost a laugh. "You won."

"Barely," Valt said, stepping closer. "You almost had me. I could feel it. What happened at the end? Your aim was perfect, but you held back."

Shu's fingers tightened around Dranzer. He had been asked that before, but never by Valt. "I didn't hold back."

"You did," Valt insisted, his voice softening. "I know you, Shu. When you launch Dranzer, you mean it. But that last time... it was like you were afraid."

"Afraid of what?" Shu whispered, though he knew the answer.

"Afraid of beating me?" Valt guessed, his brow furrowing. "Or afraid of what would happen if you did?"

Shu's heart hammered. Valt was too perceptive, seeing through the calm facade he had built over years of solitude. "It doesn't matter now. You won. That's what everyone will remember."

"I don't care what everyone remembers," Valt said, his voice fierce. He closed the distance between them until they were mere inches apart. "I care about you. About us. This isn't just about winning or losing, Shu. It never has been."

"Then what is it about?" Shu asked, meeting Valt's gaze. The intensity in Valt's eyes made his breath catch.

"It's about you and me," Valt said, reaching out to gently touch Shu's cheek. "It's about the way my heart races every time I see you launch Dranzer. It's about the way I can't stop thinking about you even when I'm supposed to be celebrating. It's about... love."

The word hung in the air between them, fragile and powerful. Shu's lips parted, but no sound came out. He had never allowed himself to imagine this moment. Their rivalry had been everything—the fire that drove them both. But underneath that fire, there had always been something else, something he had buried deep.

"Valt," Shu finally managed, his voice trembling. "What are you saying?"

Valt smiled, that same radiant smile that had captivated Shu from the very beginning. "I'm saying I don't want us to just be rivals anymore. I want to stand beside you, not just across from you."

Shu's hand, still holding Dranzer, lowered to his side. The weight of his uncertainty lifted, replaced by a warmth that spread through his chest. "I've been so afraid," he admitted. "Afraid that if I let myself feel this, I'd lose my edge. Or worse, lose you."

"You could never lose me," Valt said, his voice a whisper. "You're the reason I fight harder. The reason I win. You push me to be better, and I want to do the same for you."

Shu's eyes stung. He blinked rapidly, but a single tear escaped, tracing a path down his cheek. Valt caught it with his thumb, wiping it away with infinite tenderness.

"I love you too," Shu said, the words freeing a knot he hadn't known was there. "I've loved you for so long."

Valt's smile widened, and he pulled Shu into a tight embrace. Shu buried his face in Valt's shoulder, breathing in the familiar scent of him—sweat and victory and something uniquely Valt. They stood there, wrapped in each other, as the moonlight bathed them in silver.

When they finally pulled back, Valt's eyes were bright. "So, what now?" he asked.

Shu looked down at Dranzer, then up at Valt. "Now, we go to the party. And then tomorrow, we train together. And the next day, we battle again."

Valt laughed, a joyful sound that echoed in the empty arena. "I like that plan."

"But Valt," Shu said, his voice turning serious. "I'm still going to beat you someday."

"I'm counting on it," Valt replied, taking Shu's hand. "I'll always be right there, waiting."

They walked out of the arena together, their fingers intertwined. The night air was cool, but Shu felt warm for the first time in years. The rivalry that had defined them was still there, but now it was tempered with something deeper. They were partners, in battle and in life.

As they reached the doors to the celebration hall, Valt paused. He turned to Shu, his expression soft. "Thank you," he said, "for being my rival. And for being so much more."

Shu squeezed his hand. "Thank you for being brave enough to say what I couldn't."

Valt grinned. "That's what I'm here for."

And with that, they pushed open the doors, stepping into the light and noise of the party. But they held onto each other, a secret shared between them—a love that had transcended the battle, and would continue to grow with every launch, every clash, every beautiful moment of their lives together.

In the end, it wasn't about who won or lost. It was about finding someone who made every battle worth fighting, and every victory sweeter when shared.

Shu Kurenai had found that in Valt Aoi. And he would never let go.
