Ramen and Rivals
After a rough day, Naruto is surprised when Sasuke gives him premium instant ramen. They share a quiet rooftop meal, and their bickering turns into a tender moment, culminating in a first kiss that changes their rivalry into something more.
Naruto Uzumaki was having a terrible, no-good, very bad day. His mission had gone sideways, he’d been hit in the face with a paint bomb from a rogue ninja, and now his favorite ramen shop was closed for repairs. To top it all off, his perpetually grumpy teammate, Sasuke Uchiha, had been smirking at him all afternoon.
“What’s so funny, teme?” Naruto grumbled, wiping a smear of blue paint off his cheek.
Sasuke leaned against the wall, arms crossed, his dark eyes glinting with amusement. “You look like a rejected art project.”
“Shut up!” Naruto stomped toward him, but Sasuke held up a small bag.
“I got you something.”
Naruto froze. “What? Why?”
Sasuke shrugged, the ghost of a smile playing on his lips. “You’ve been whining about Ichiraku being closed for three days. It’s pathetic.” He tossed the bag to Naruto, who caught it clumsily.
Inside was a container of instant ramen—the premium kind, with extra toppings. Naruto’s eyes widened. “Sasuke… did you actually do something nice?”
“Don’t make a big deal of it, dobe. I just didn’t want to hear you complain anymore.”
Naruto felt a warm flutter in his chest. He opened his mouth to make a sarcastic remark, but what came out was, “Thanks, Sasuke.”
Sasuke’s cheeks tinted pink. He turned away quickly. “Whatever. Let’s go eat before it gets cold.”
They ended up on the rooftop, sitting side by side. Naruto wolfed down the ramen while Sasuke pretended to be disinterested, but Naruto caught him stealing glances.
“You know,” Naruto said between slurps, “if you wanted to spend time with me, you could’ve just said so.”
“I didn’t—
“My treat next time,” Naruto interrupted, nudging Sasuke’s shoulder. “I’ll even let you choose the ramen flavor.”
Sasuke sighed, shaking his head, but he couldn’t hide the smile. “You’re impossible, Naruto.”
“And you’re stuck with me.”
For a long moment, they watched the sunset paint the village orange and gold. Then, Sasuke’s hand brushed against Naruto’s. Neither pulled away.
“Hey, dobe,” Sasuke said softly.
“Hmm?”
“You’ve got paint in your hair.”
Naruto laughed, a bright, honest sound. “Guess you’ll have to help me wash it out later.”
Sasuke rolled his eyes, but his fingers found Naruto’s and intertwined. “Don’t get used to this.”
“Too late,” Naruto whispered, leaning in.
The kiss was brief, tentative, and tasted like soy sauce and victory. When they parted, Sasuke’s face was the color of a ripe tomato.
“Idiot,” he muttered.
“Your idiot,” Naruto corrected, grinning.
They stayed on the roof until the stars came out, hands still clasped, the weight of rivalry finally settling into something much warmer. And if Sakura found them asleep back-to-back the next morning, well… she just smiled and left them be.
