The Avengers' new base on a secluded island off the coast of New York was a hive of activity. Tony Stark had insisted on a state-of-the-art facility, complete with holographic training rooms, a communal kitchen, and a rooftop garden that overlooked the Atlantic. It was meant to be a sanctuary, a place for Earth's Mightiest Heroes to heal and regroup after the Infinity War.

Carol Danvers, known to the world as Captain Marvel, stood on the helipad, watching the sunset paint the sky in hues of orange and pink. She had been on Earth for two weeks now, helping with the transition, but part of her still felt like a stranger. The others had bonds forged in battle years before she ever knew Earth needed her. She was the cosmic protector, the one who drifted among the stars.

"Hey, Captain Marvel!" a familiar, enthusiastic voice called out. She turned to see Peter Parker, aka Spider-Man, jogging toward her, a nervous grin on his face. He was wearing civilian clothes—a hoodie and jeans—and his hair was slightly disheveled from the sea breeze.

"Peter. I thought you weren't coming until next week," Carol said, raising an eyebrow. She'd heard Tony mention recruiting the kid, but she hadn't expected him so soon.

"Yeah, Mr. Stark kinda insisted. Said I needed to 'get my head in the game' and 'stop moping around Queens.' His words, not mine." Peter shrugged, shoving his hands into his pockets. "Honestly, I've been kinda lost since... everything. I mean, I almost died, and Mr. Stark almost died, and then we actually won, but it still feels like we lost, you know?"

Carol nodded slowly. She understood loss better than most. "Yeah, I know."

They stood in comfortable silence for a moment, watching the waves crash against the shore. Then Peter's stomach growled loudly, and he blushed. "Sorry, I haven't eaten since this morning. The ferry ride made me queasy."

Carol chuckled—a rare sound that surprised even her. "Come on, kid. Let's get you some food. I think Natasha's making her famous borscht."

"Borscht? Is that the beet soup? I've never had it."

"It's good. Trust me."

As they walked inside, Peter chattered about his classes, his aunt May's new job, and his theories about Loki's reformation. Carol listened, amused by his endless energy. There was something refreshing about him—a genuine goodness that reminded her of why she fought.

Days turned into weeks. The Avengers settled into a rhythm: training sessions, strategy meetings, and movie nights. Carol found herself gravitating toward Peter's optimism. He had a way of making even the most mundane tasks feel like an adventure. One afternoon, they were assigned to restock the supply closet.

"So, Captain Marvel—can I call you Carol?" Peter asked, stacking boxes of protein bars.

"Sure, kid."

"Awesome. So, Carol, have you ever fought a space octopus? Because I fought this guy in a Halloween costume once, and it was weird."

Carol laughed, genuinely. "Space octopi are real, actually. They're called Cephalopods of Kylos. They have twelve tentacles and can mimic any language."

Peter's eyes went wide. "That's both terrifying and amazing."

Their friendship deepened over late-night conversations on the roof. Carol told him about her life on Hala, the Kree, and the burden of being a cosmic hero. Peter shared his fears about letting down Tony, about being just a kid from Queens with spider-powers.

"You're not 'just' anything, Peter," Carol said one night, her voice soft. "You have the biggest heart of anyone I've met. That's what makes you a hero."

Peter stared at her, something shifting in his gaze. "Thanks, Carol. That means a lot."

She felt a flutter in her chest—something she hadn't felt in years. She quickly looked away, blaming the stars.

It was during a mission to stop a rogue Kree cell that their relationship evolved. The fight was chaotic; Peter was pinned under debris, and Carol was overwhelmed by a Kree commander. She saw Peter struggling, and something snapped. She unleashed a blast of energy that knocked the commander unconscious, then flew to Peter's side.

"You okay?" she asked, lifting the rubble with ease.

"Yeah, thanks. You saved me." He smiled, but there was a tremor in his voice.

"Always, Parker."

Back at the base, as Peter healed his bruised ribs, Carol sat beside him. "You scared me," she admitted quietly.

"Scared you? You're Captain Marvel. You don't get scared."

"I do when it comes to you."

Peter's breath hitched. "Carol..."

She leaned in, her lips brushing his. It was a gentle kiss, full of unspoken promises. When she pulled back, Peter's face was bright red, but he was grinning.

"Wow. That was... wow."

Carol smiled, feeling lighter than she had in years. "Yeah. Wow."

From then on, they were inseparable. Tony raised an eyebrow but said nothing—just a knowing smirk. Natasha teased Carol about her 'soft spot.' Even Loki, from his corner, muttered something about "mortal affections" with a hint of curiosity.

One evening, as they watched a meteor shower from the roof, Peter leaned his head on Carol's shoulder. "I never thought I'd find someone who gets me," he said.

"Neither did I," Carol replied, her fingers intertwined with his. "But here we are. Two crazy heroes, falling for each other under the stars."

Peter laughed. "Sounds like the title of a movie."

"Maybe it is. Our movie."

They sat there, wrapped in each other's warmth, as shooting stars blazed across the sky. For the first time in a long time, Carol felt at home. And Peter knew that he had found his anchor in the vast universe—a starfall that led him to her.
