The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across the island. Chuck sat alone on the edge of a cliff, his bright yellow feathers dulled by the fading light. He stared out at the ocean, his usually quick movements replaced by stillness. His mind replayed the events of the day: the mission to retrieve the eggs from the pigs had gone wrong. He had been too fast, too reckless, and his plan had collapsed, nearly costing them everything. The others had assured him it wasn't his fault, but the words felt hollow.

Stella had been searching for him since the debriefing. She knew Chuck well enough to recognize when his energetic facade cracked. She spotted his silhouette against the orange sky and approached quietly, her footsteps soft on the grass. "Hey," she said gently, sitting beside him.

Chuck didn't turn. "Hey."

They sat in silence for a moment, the only sound the waves crashing below. Stella waited, knowing he would speak when ready. Finally, Chuck let out a shaky breath. "I messed up, Stella. I thought I had it figured out, but I was too impatient. Now we have to wait another week to get the eggs back."

"It's not your fault," Stella said. "We all make mistakes. The pigs are tricky."

"But I'm supposed to be fast! That's my thing! I'm supposed to help, not make things worse." His voice cracked.

Stella shifted closer, her wing brushing his. "Chuck, you do help. Every day. Your speed has saved us countless times. One setback doesn't erase that."

He finally looked at her, his eyes glistening. "Then why do I feel like I'm not enough?"

Stella's heart ached for him. She knew that feeling all too well—the weight of expectation, the fear of failure. "Because you care," she said softly. "You care so much that you put everything into every mission. That's not a flaw; it's a strength. But you have to be kind to yourself too."

Chuck let out a bitter laugh. "Kind to myself? That's hard when I keep letting everyone down."

"You haven't let anyone down," Stella insisted. "Do you know what Red said after the mission? He said you were brave. Bomb said he couldn't have done it better. We all see how much you try."

"But trying isn't enough if I fail."

"Failing isn't the end," Stella said, her voice firm but warm. "It's a lesson. Tomorrow, we'll try again, together. And I'll be right there with you."

Chuck's shoulders sagged, the tension slowly leaving. He leaned into her, resting his head on her shoulder. Stella wrapped a wing around him, holding him close. They sat like that as the stars appeared, one by one.

"Thank you," Chuck whispered.

"Always," she replied.

Later, they walked back to the village, Chuck's steps a little lighter. Stella stayed by his side, a silent promise that he would never have to face his fears alone. And as they joined the others for a quiet dinner, Chuck felt a warmth spread through him—not from the fire, but from the comfort of a true friend.
