The night air was cool and damp, carrying the distant hum of Piltover's machinery. Frida pulled her hood tighter, her heart thumping against her ribs as she slipped through the shadows of the Undercity. The old textile mill had been abandoned for years, its rusted gears and shattered windows now home to nothing but rats and whispers. But tonight, it held a different secret.

She found Jinx perched on a beam high above, legs swinging, her braids catching the faint moonlight filtering through the broken roof. A faint blue glow pulsed from the hextech gem at her belt, casting eerie shadows across her face. Frida's breath caught, as it always did. Even now, after months of secret meetings, the sight of her still stole her words.

"You're late, Firelight." Jinx's voice was a teasing sing-song, but her eyes softened when they met Frida's. She dropped down with a practiced, almost feline grace, landing inches away. The scent of oil and gunpowder clung to her, mixed with something floral—a new soap, maybe.

"Had to wait for the patrol rotation," Frida replied, her smile tugging at her lips. "Ekko's getting suspicious. He almost caught me leaving last time."

Jinx snorted. "Marksman? Please. I could've told you he's too busy staring at his little tree-friends to notice anything." She flicked a stray strand of blue hair from her face, then grabbed Frida's hand, pulling her toward a pile of old crates in the corner. "Come on, I've got something to show you."

A makeshift blanket and a few pillows were spread out, and in the center sat a small, ticking device—a jumble of wires and gears, with a single shimmering crystal at its core. "Ta-da!" Jinx announced, her voice brimming with pride. "My latest masterpiece. I call it the Starlight Slinger. It shoots... well, you'll see."

Frida knelt beside her, examining the contraption. "It looks like it might explode."

"Exactly! That's half the fun." Jinx's grin was wild, infectious. "But I made it safe for you. Promise. No boom unless I want it to." She winked, and Frida felt her cheeks warm.

They sat together, shoulders brushing, as Jinx explained the inner workings. Frida listened, half to the words and half to the melody of Jinx's voice—quick, excited, sometimes tangling into nonsensical tangents. When Jinx gestured wildly, Frida caught her hand, threading their fingers together. The motion stilled Jinx’s rambling.

"I missed you," Frida whispered, the words tumbling out before she could stop them.

Jinx's expression flickered—surprise, then something softer. "I'm right here, silly." But she leaned in, pressing her forehead to Frida's. "You're the only one who doesn't look at me like I'm broken."

"You're not broken. You're just... a lot." Frida chuckled. "And I like a lot."

For a moment, the world fell away. The grime of the Undercity, the constant tension of the Firelights, the ghost of Silco and the shadow of Piltover—none of it mattered. There was only Jinx's breath against her lips, the warmth of her hand, the electric anticipation.

Then Jinx pulled back, a mischievous glint in her eye. "I have another surprise."

Before Frida could protest, Jinx produced a small jar from her pocket. It held a dozen tiny glowbugs, their abdomens pulsing with soft, blue-green light. "Found 'em near the river. Thought they'd look pretty." She unscrewed the lid, and the bugs drifted into the air, casting dancing specks of light around them.

"Jinx..." Frida's voice was thick with emotion. "This is beautiful."

"Yeah, well, don't get used to it. I'm still a menace." But Jinx's cheeks were pink, and she looked away, pretending to examine the floating insects.

They lay back on the blanket, staring up at the swarm of tiny stars. Frida's head rested on Jinx's shoulder, and Jinx's arm curved around her waist. The Starlight Slinger sat forgotten, ticking softly in the dark.

"What happens when they find out?" Frida asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Jinx's fingers traced patterns on her arm. "Then we run. Together. Or we don't. I don't care, as long as you're there."

Frida turned, meeting Jinx's gaze. "You mean that?"

"I never mean anything, but I mean this." Jinx's grin was lopsided, but her eyes held no mockery. "Cross my heart, hope to die, stick a hextech needle in my eye."

Frida laughed, the sound echoing in the empty mill. She leaned up and kissed her, soft and slow. Jinx melted into it, her hand cupping Frida's cheek. The glowbugs danced around them, witnesses to a secret that felt too fragile and too strong all at once.

When they finally broke apart, Jinx's voice was husky. "You know, I could get used to this."

"Good," Frida said. "Because I'm not planning on going anywhere."

They stayed until the sky began to lighten, the first gray hints of dawn seeping through the cracks. Jinx packed up her device and the now-empty jar, while Frida brushed the dust from her cloak. At the entrance, they lingered, stealing one last kiss.

"Same time next week?" Frida asked.

"Wouldn't miss it." Jinx winked, then disappeared into the maze of alleys, a flash of blue and a whisper of laughter.

Frida watched her go, a warmth blooming in her chest. She touched her lips, still tingling, and smiled. As she made her way back to the Firelight camp, the day ahead seemed a little brighter, the weight of her double life a little lighter. Because somewhere in the Undercity, a girl with chaos in her blood and starlight in her hands was waiting for her.

And that was enough.
