🚀Getting Started
Do I need an account to use FanFicGen?
No. You can generate up to 3 stories per day as a guest — no sign-up required. Creating a free account lets you manage your stories, toggle their visibility between public and private, and unlock higher daily limits through paid plans.
How do I create my first story?
Head to the Generate page and follow the guided flow: pick a fandom or universe, add your characters, choose a genre, then describe your story idea. Every field has an AI Suggest (✨) button that generates contextual options if you need inspiration. Hit Generate and your story is ready in seconds.
What fandoms and universes does FanFicGen support?
We support 100+ fandoms across books, anime, TV shows, movies, video games, and more — from Harry Potter and Marvel to Naruto, Stranger Things, and Attack on Titan. You can also type in any custom fandom or create crossover universes.
✨Story Generation
How does the AI generate stories?
FanFicGen uses advanced large language models to produce complete, titled fan fiction stories with a summary. You set the fandom, characters, genre, tone, story length, and content rating — the AI crafts a narrative that stays faithful to the source material, with proper dialogue and character voices.
What are the AI Suggest (✨) buttons?
Each form field — Fandom, Characters, Genre, Prompt, and Tone — has a ✨ button that generates contextual suggestions. For example, it can recommend popular characters for your chosen fandom, genre ideas that fit the story, or creative premises to spark your imagination. Suggestions are deduplicated so you always get fresh ideas each time you click.
Can I customize the tone, genre, and content rating?
Absolutely. Choose from 12 genre presets (Romance, Adventure, Mystery, Comedy, Angst, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Action, Slice of Life) or add your own. Pick from 8 tone presets (Lighthearted, Dark & Moody, Emotional, Humorous, Epic, Whimsical, Suspenseful, Romantic) or write a custom tone. Content rating options are General (all ages), Teen, and Mature.
What story lengths are available?
Three options: Short (~500–800 words), Medium (~1,200–2,000 words), and Long (~3,000–5,000 words). The Free tier supports Short and Medium stories. Upgrade to Basic or Pro to unlock Long stories.
How long does story generation take?
Most stories are generated in 10–30 seconds depending on length and current server load. You will see a live progress indicator while the AI works.
Does FanFicGen save my form draft?
Yes. Your fandom, characters, genre, tone, prompt, and other selections are automatically saved to your browser's session storage. If you accidentally reload the page, everything is still there.
🔗Sharing & Discovery
Can I share the stories I generate?
Yes. Every generated story gets a permanent, unique URL. You can share it directly by copying the link or use the built-in share buttons for Twitter/X, Facebook, Reddit, and Tumblr.
Are generated stories public or private?
Stories are public by default so other fans can discover them. If you are signed in, you can toggle any story to private from the story page — private stories are hidden from the Explore page, sitemap, and search engines, but remain accessible to you via your story library.
How does the Explore page work?
The Explore page lets you browse all public stories from the community. You can filter by genre (Romance, Adventure, Mystery, Comedy, Angst, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Horror, and more) or by fandom. Stories are displayed in a paginated grid with 12 per page.
Can I discover related stories?
Yes. At the bottom of every story page, you will find up to 3 related public stories from the same fandom — a great way to keep reading content you enjoy.
💳Account & Pricing
What plans are available?
Three tiers: Free ($0 — 3 stories/day, Short & Medium lengths), Basic ($9.99/month — 30 stories/day, all lengths, priority generation), and Pro ($19.99/month — 100 stories/day, all lengths, custom tone/style, PDF & EPUB downloads). Annual billing saves about 20%.
What payment methods are accepted?
Payments are securely handled by Stripe. All major credit and debit cards are supported. You can manage your subscription and billing from the Stripe customer portal.
Can I cancel my subscription anytime?
Yes, cancel anytime from your Stripe billing portal — no questions asked. Your access continues until the end of the current billing period, and you keep all stories you have already generated.
🛡️Privacy & Content
What happens to the stories I generate?
Stories are stored securely in our database. Longer stories are also backed up to cloud storage for reliability. You control whether each story is public or private, and you can access your full library from the My Stories page when signed in.
Can I use generated stories commercially?
Generated content is AI-produced fan fiction based on existing intellectual properties. Fair use principles and the copyright of the original source material apply. This is not legal advice — if you plan to publish or monetize a story, please consult an attorney.
How does content moderation work?
The AI follows the content rating you select (General, Teen, or Mature) and applies guardrails to keep the output appropriate for that level. The system prompt explicitly instructs the model to avoid content that exceeds the chosen rating.
