Loki caught the spell on his palm. The red light hissed against his skin, then vanished. His eyes widened. “That spell. It is not meant to harm.”

“No,” Harry said. “It’s meant to disarm.”

He lunged, not with magic but with his shoulder, ramming Loki into the broken wall. Stone crumbled. Loki snarled and drove a dagger up. Harry caught his wrist. They stood chest to chest, trembling, each holding the other’s death.

“You could kill me,” Loki whispered. “Why don’t you?”

“Because you’re not one of them.”

“I am not one of anyone.”

“Then leave.”

Loki’s laugh was bitter. “I cannot. Something dragged me here. A veil. A door. Your world is a cage, and I am the rat.”

Harry’s grip tightened. “There’s a battle. People are dying. If you’re not with Voldemort, then help or get out of my way.”

“Help?” Loki’s free hand rose. Green light coiled around his fingers. “I only help myself.”

The corridor shook. A chunk of ceiling crashed between them, forcing them apart. Dust swallowed the air. When it cleared, Loki stood at the far end, daggers lowered.

“You have fire, Potter,” he said. “Misplaced, but bright.”

“And you talk too much.”

Loki smiled—not mockery now, but something tired. “Perhaps. But I have seen enough of your war. It smells like every other. I will find my own door.”

“If you hurt anyone—”

“You will do what? Disarm me again?” Loki stepped backward into the green seam. “Keep your noble heart, boy. It will get you killed. But not tonight.”

The portal snapped shut. Harry stood alone, ribs aching, wand still raised. Below, the battle raged on. He wiped blood from his mouth and ran toward the noise.

He had a war to finish.
