The rain came down in sheets, turning Yokohama's neon glow into a blurry watercolor. Chuuya stood on the rooftop of a warehouse, his coat sodden, his hat gone somewhere in the chaos of the fight. Below, the Port Mafia's enemies had scattered. Above, the sky was a bruised, weeping thing. He should have felt victorious. Instead, he just felt wet and tired.

A familiar voice cut through the patter of raindrops. "My, my, Chibi's all alone on a night like this. How melancholy."

Chuuya didn't turn around. He knew that voice better than his own heartbeat. "Dazai. Here to gloat, or did you actually do something useful for once?"

Dazai materialized beside him, an umbrella tilted at a ridiculous angle that offered neither of them much cover. His coat was pristine, as always. His hair was dry. Chuuya hated him for that.

"I was in the neighborhood," Dazai said, his voice light, but his dark eyes were fixed on Chuuya with an unsettling intensity. "And I thought you might need a rescue."

"I don't need rescuing," Chuuya snapped, turning to face him fully. "Especially not by a suicidal maniac who thinks drowning in the harbor is a fun Thursday activity."

Dazai smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes. "And yet, here I am. Rescuing you."

Chuuya frowned. Something was off. Dazai's jokes were usually sharper, quicker. This one had a hollow ring to it. "What's wrong with you?"

"Nothing a good death wouldn't fix," Dazai said, and then, before Chuuya could punch him, he added, "But I thought I'd try something else first."

"Like what?"

"Like admitting that I've missed you."

The words hung in the air, heavy as the storm clouds above. Chuuya blinked, rain dripping down his face. "What?"

"I said—"

"I heard what you said," Chuuya cut him off, his voice rough. "I just don't believe it."

Dazai stepped closer, the umbrella now offering them both a fragile shelter from the rain. "You know, Chuuya, for all your brute force, you've never been good at seeing what's right in front of you."

"And what's that?"

"Me." Dazai's voice was quiet, almost lost in the storm. "I've been standing here, in front of you, for years. And you've never once looked at me like I matter."

Chuuya's chest tightened. He wanted to argue, to shove Dazai away, to scream that this was just another game. But the words died in his throat. Because he had looked. He'd looked far more often than he'd ever admit.

"You're a pain in the ass," Chuuya said, his voice breaking slightly. "You've ruined more of my days than anyone alive. And you expect me to believe you've missed me?"

"I don't expect you to believe it," Dazai said. "But it's true."

For a long moment, they just stood there. The rain continued to fall, but the distance between them had shrunk to almost nothing. Chuuya could feel the warmth radiating from Dazai's body, a stark contrast to the cold night.

"Why now?" Chuuya finally asked. "Why say this now?"

Dazai's smile faltered. "Because I've been thinking a lot about endings lately. And I realized I don't want mine to be spent alone."

Chuuya's heart ached. He knew about Dazai's obsession with death, the way he courted it like a lover. But this was different. This was Dazai reaching out, grabbing hold of life—or at least, of Chuuya.

"You're an idiot, Dazai." Chuuya's voice was barely a whisper. "You're the biggest idiot I've ever known."

"Is that your way of saying yes?"

"Saying yes to what?"

"To being with me. To staying with me." Dazai's eyes were pleading, vulnerable in a way Chuuya had never seen. "I don't need forever, Chuuya. I just need tonight."

The words were so uncharacteristically earnest that Chuuya felt something crack inside him. He reached out, grabbing the front of Dazai's coat, pulling him closer.

"If you're lying," Chuuya said, his voice thick, "I'll kill you myself."

Dazai's breath hitched. "I'd welcome it. But I'm not lying."

And then, before he could second-guess himself, Chuuya kissed him.

It wasn't gentle. It was desperate and fierce, the kind of kiss born from years of sparring, shouting, and dancing around each other. Dazai made a small sound of surprise against Chuuya's lips, then melted into it, his umbrella clattering to the rooftop.

The rain soaked them both, but neither cared. Chuuya's gloved hands tangled in Dazai's hair, and Dazai's arms wrapped around Chuuya's waist, pulling him impossibly close.

When they finally broke apart, they were both breathing hard. Chuuya's face was flushed, and Dazai's usual smirk was nowhere to be found.

"Well," Dazai said, his voice shaky. "That was certainly worth getting wet for."

Chuuya laughed—a genuine laugh, rare and warm. "You're still an idiot."

"Your idiot," Dazai said softly.

Chuuya didn't argue. Instead, he pulled Dazai closer, resting his forehead against his. The rain continued to fall, but for the first time in a long time, Chuuya felt dry.

"Let's get out of this before we both catch pneumonia," Chuuya finally said.

"Where would you like to go?"

"Somewhere with a roof. And maybe a bed." Chuuya's voice held a hint of challenge.

Dazai's eyes widened slightly, then darkened. "Your place or mine?"

"Yours," Chuuya said. "I want to see where the voice of the Port Mafia lives."

Dazai smiled, and this time, it reached his eyes. "It's a mess."

"I figured. But I'm not expecting a love nest. I'm expecting you."

Dazai grabbed his umbrella and held it over them both. "Then let's go."

They walked through the rain, side by side, the umbrella a small shield against the world. Chuuya's hand found Dazai's, and for once, neither of them let go.

In that moment, they weren't Port Mafia or Agency. They were just two people, lost and found, trying to hold on to something real.

And for Dazai, that something was Chuuya. For Chuuya, that something was Dazai.

It was enough.
